Creating redirects

When you have a blog with many posts and change URLs or remove pages, it may be necessary to create redirects so that visitors and search engines are sent to the right place.

In this guide, you will learn how to easily create a redirect in WordPress so that old links automatically lead to the new address – without your readers encountering a 404 error.

How to create a redirect in WordPress with Rank Math

  1. Log in to your WordPress site
    Go to your WordPress dashboard.

  2. Go to Redirections in the backend
Click on Redirections in the menu on the left.

  3. Click on 'Add New'
At the top of the page, you will find the Add New button – click on it to create a new redirect.

  4. Fill in the redirect information

    • Source URL: Enter the old URL (the one to be redirected from) – e.g.: /gammel-side/

    • Destination URL: Enter the new URL (the one you want to redirect to) – e.g.: /ny-side/

    • Redirection Type: Select the type of redirect you want to use. For most purposes, 301 Permanent Move is recommended.

  5. Save the redirect
Click Add Redirection at the bottom, and the redirect will be active immediately.

Your redirect is now working. You can test it by opening the old URL in your browser – it should automatically redirect you to the new one.
